Llanhilleth Institute provides a vibrant link with the industrial past of the Ebbw Fach Valley. This Grade II listed building stands prestigiously within the picturesque village of Llanhilleth and is now a unique venue that caters for conferences, weddings, the arts and live entertainment; as well as acting as a focus and resource for the whole of the community (see our Community and Local Services pages).

Fully restored to the original glory of when it was first built in 1906, Llanhilleth Institute has two function rooms; a large Dance Hall (Ithel Suite) with bar and smaller but devisable Ebbw Suites as well as our Café. It is also home to St Illtyds Communities First, Flying Start, a variety of Social Enterprises, the Police information service, Local Health Board Baby clinic, Local Health Board  Doctors practice and an Independent Doctors practice .

The heritage of Llanhilleth and the St Illtyds Ward is about more than simply coal mining. Although coal mining played an important role; the Institute itself being built and paid for by the local Miners, it is also an area of myths and legends, fairies and folklore with its own Giant and Castle.

Little evidence of the powerful coal industry remains and the scars of coal mining have healed allowing the beautiful scenery of Llanhilleth to shine through. St Illtyds Church is only a short drive above the Institute from which the most spectacular views can be seen.

We look forward to welcoming you.
