Supporting people to live their lives.
Ategi was started in Cardiff in 1994 as Cardiff Independent Living Company when the Government’s “All Wales Strategy” (1983) led to huge changes in the way people with learning disabilities were seen and supported.
With the closure of Ely Hospital in Cardiff ategi began providing domiciliary support to people to live within their community with our Supported Living Staff and Visiting Support team.
Having started as a not-for-profit, co-operative company limited by guarantee, ategi registered with the Charities Commission in 1999. Charity registration number 1077595.
In 2001 ategi set up the first independent Shared Lives Scheme in South Wales in Rhondda Cynon Taff growing into Cardiff in 2003 and Torfaen in 2005. In 2009 ategi started a new Shared Lives Scheme in Buckinghamshire and began supporting Shared Lives Carer in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in 2012. In 2015 ategi began managing the previously local authority run Shared Lives Schemes of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend. We began a new Homeshare Scheme in The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in 2013. In 2017 ategi Shared Lives started managing existing local authority schemes in South Gloucestershire and Haringey and also set up a new scheme in Thurrock.
The business of ategi Limited is governed by the Trustees and together with voluntary members a Committee is formed to focus on the Governance, Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of the company’s performance. The Management Committee is led by the Trustees with representatives from elected Staff, Shared Lives Carers and other community support volunteers. Trustees delegate to the Chief Executive who has overall responsibility for day to day management of the company.
We are committed to ensuring that the people who use our services are at the centre of the support they receive and contribute to the way ategi works.
