We are a newly-registered charity providing a Hospice at Home Volunteer service to the local community of North Ceredigion (Aberystwyth, Tregaron, Lampeter and Aberaeron).

Our mission is: to provide practical, social and emotional support to patients who are living with advanced, incurable and progressive illness and to their carers, in the comfort of their own homes.

Our service complements and works closely with the specialist palliative care team, GPs, district nurses and other health, third sector and social care professionals who provide palliative care locally.

Our volunteers do not replace or take over the care and support provided by the statutory services, nor do we provide direct nursing care.

Our volunteers are fully trained and DBS-checked before visiting patients.

The support a volunteer provides will depend on the patient's individual needs but may include:

  • An opportunity for patients to have someone to talk to outside of the family.
  • Accompanying the patient on trips to the shops or a favourite venue.
  • Friendship.
  • Shopping on behalf of the patient.
  • Information and signposting.
  • Gardening, dog-walking and so on.

Our volunteers can support carers, family and friends in ways which may include:

  • Offering breaks while the volunteer ‘sits’ with the patient so that carers can attend to errands, chores or just have a quiet cup of tea.
  • Friendship.
  • Information and signposting.
